Suncoast Polytechnical High School is a technology magnet high school that offers a rigorous curriculum to prepare its students for college and careers. SPHS offers students two signature programs: Animation/Gaming/Simulation (AGS) and Engineering/Robotics CTE Programs. Students at SPHS can accelerate in CTE Pathways and rigorous AP coursework due to our block scheduling. SPHS prides itself on its relationship with Suncoast Technical College, where students get to dual enroll with the college. In partnership with STC, SPHS students access to all of the many programs offered on our shared campus. These programs include coursework that prepares students for work in fields related to Health Sciences, Business and Human Services and Industrial Education. Some of the specific opportunities for high school students include: Emergency Medical Technician / Firefighter, Licensed Practical Nursing, Accounting Operations, Certified Culinarian Arts, ASE Certified Auto Technician, Drafting, and Advanced Manufacturing.
SPHS will begin walking tours from 8:45 to 10:00, starting on Nov. 14. Contact Sally Williams if you are interested as space is limited. Also there will be several open houses in the next few months. The first one is Nov. 15, 2023 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Visit the SPHS website for more information on additional dates and the application process.
SPHS normally accepts around 150 students per year and receives well over 250 applications. Meeting the admission criteria does not guarantee admission.
Students are encouraged to apply if they meet the following criteria:
FSA scores of 3 or higher or an average of 3 or higher OR norm referenced test scores in the 50th percentile or higher
Passing grades in all classes
No attendance issues
No significant behavior issues
The most competitive students meet the following criteria:
FSA scores of 4 or higher OR norm referenced test scores in the 80th percentile or higher
Grades of B or higher in all classes
Enrollment in Algebra I or Geometry in 8th grade
Enrollment in at least one Honors class
Participation in 1 or more activities after school Students are enrolled in Spanish I (High School credit) or another high school level foreign language course
