In addition to the students districted to the school, BHS has a Visual & Performing Arts Magnet Program.  The VPA Program provides rigorous pre-professional instruction in dance, digital film and motion design, music, theatre, and visual art. 
Besides education in the arts through the VPA program, Booker High School provides students with rigorous academic classes with the Cambridge University AICE (Advanced International Certificate of Education) program, which offers a comprehensive college-preparatory curriculum and the opportunity to earn college credit in high school.

The school offers diverse program options. For instance, JROTC provides training in leadership, accountability, teamwork and logistics. The CTE (Career and Technical Education) program at Booker offers courses in digital design, hospitality and tourism, business and entrepreneurship, and engineering and robotics.
Additionally, BHS has a third magnet program, The Law Academy, that is a part of the CTE cluster. The Law Academy offers two tracks: criminal justice and constitutional law.
Finally, Booker High School partners with Inner City Hope USA to offer courses in coding and mobile app development. These programs can earn students industry certifications before they even graduate from high school.

 Booker High School's Student Parent Information Night is from 5:30 to 7:30 on Thursday, FEB. 3 in the Courtyard of BHS.  It is an opportunity to discover unique opportunities, meet staff, tour the campus--the classrooms, the studios, and the mock courtroom. You will learn about the Visual and Performing Arts Program, the college prep University of  Cambridge AICE Program and the school's Law Academy. 

Audition/open house on November 12, 2022
​Please note:  the Visual & Performing Arts department (VPA) is having an Audition/Open House event on Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 9 am – 1 pm.

​Booker High School VPA Shadows have begun for the 2022-23 School Year!
Have your parents contact Nancy Wachendorf to schedule a visit. Parent signs student into BHS Front Office at 7:20 am, pick up is in front school loop at 2:15 pm. Visiting students are to adhere to the policy of no cell phones in class. Students can bring their lunch or purchase lunch for $2.75.

DANCE:  Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please bring dance clothes and shoes. Dancers have their own locker room for changing.
FILM & ANIMATION:  Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Film & Animation will audition students while shadowing if their online Acceptd application is completed.
MUSIC:  Any day.  Live Audition is highly recommended for all music shadows (vocal and instrumental). Music will audition students while shadowing if their online Acceptd application is completed. If you are auditioning for an instrument and want to bring your own, it can be kept in the music department the rest of the day.

 The Booker High School Visual and Performing Arts Program offers  admission by audition. Students must successfully complete an application to join any of our six departments — Dance, Film & Animation, Music, Production & Design, Theatre, or Visual Art. The application components include academic competence, strong recommendations by current teachers or mentors, and, of course, demonstration of skill in the discipline of choice. All candidates must complete the first part of the online Acceptd application at https://bookervpa.com/start in order to make an appointment for an audition or interview. ** Students MUST have an adult create an account for them through the Acceptd application; this may be a parent, teacher, or counselor. ​

law academy

The Booker High School Law Academy provides students with a rigorous academic program in conjunction with course work in Law Studies and Criminal Justice.  Booker High School has the support of the Sarasota County Bar Association and local law enforcement professionals in providing students with curriculum materials, real world experiences and expertise.  A mock courtroom is set up to simulate a real courtroom to allow students to apply their knowledge and skills by conducting mock trials.
